Introduction to my Tomb King Army

This army was my first love.  I remember starting out with a box of skeles, as well as the starter kit.  I am not sure why but I turned out to be a huge fan of online purchasing and not really the frequent visitor to the local hobby store.  Before the long layoff, I managed to amass a box of chariots, 3 carrions, 4 ushabtis, a BG, a SSC, 2 priests, a Khalida, a TK with great weapon, a skull chucker, 15 tomb guards with FC, 2 BSBs and a box of skeleton horsemen.  Some got painted.. some not... Then came one fine day in mid of 2010 when i took my minis out to check them out... I started assembling and buying minis again.

I LIVE AGAIN!!!!

From July 2010 onwards, minis started to pour in...spent money getting bases magnetised as well... I can't even remember what i have now.. The list is below and I did some serious thinking on how I can work towards completing the army.

I did some research on ancient Egyptian color schemes and am sad to say they were not very creative with their colors. Main colors i chose to use for this army would be Polished Gold & Terracota from Vallejo and Scarab Red & Hawk Turquoise from GW. I don't like green & purple that i see in some armies so those i didn't touch.

I chose to split my army into 2 Combined Arms Division (Archers/Horsemen/TGs/Chariots), differentiated by the Division colors of Terracota & Hawk Turquoise. This will be consistent as my army starts forming up. On camera, Terracota looks very very close to Scarab Red but irl, it has a more orange tinge to it. Not sure what color schemes i'll use for Support Arms & characters but i'll manage that as i move along.

Skeles are base coated with GW skull-white spray, devlan mud washed, bleach bone dry-brushed and skull white high-light to face and knuckles. Woods are done using Scarab Red & glazed Devlan Mud. Metals are either polished gold or brassy bronze, with some chainmail.

Bases are glued fine sand from the beach, base color Kommando Khaki, dry-brush bleach bone, light dry brush skull-white and flocked using GW "Dead Grass".

All models are finished with Mr Hobby Semi-Gloss Spray-on Varnish. I like a slight glossy look on my minis (you'll see from the pictures) and that varnish gives it a peculiar orange fragrance tongue.gif

Also, i started making some custom move trays, mainly 20x2 & 5x6 for the Archer line and infantry blocks. These i made out of Bass Wood and followed the same line for basing & flock as above. I also used GW movement trays.

Most of my skeletons are mounted on 20x80mm bases for easy deployment (and removal from crumble).

All my minis are magnetised at the based using rare-earth magnets and my movement trays either have a layer of sheet magnet or a layer of tin from a biscuit tin (thanks Mom smile.gif).

Some stuff i have painted from 8 years ago before i stopped and others i started from May 2010.

I'll be ticking off the list what i have to paint as i move along:

Milestones
October 2010 - Remaining stuff for TK (& OK) came in. Won't be buying minis for a long while... O&G starting to look pretty cute now..

February 2011 - Assembled up my Settra on Chariot and those huge blocks of Skeletons. Waiting for my dip to come in before dipping those skeles. Also spent some time reworking the sh*tty paint job on my 3 chariots. Now they look prim and proper.

18 February 2011 - Started my warhammer blog.  Updates will come in different forms now.  Dip arrived as well together with a whole bunch of resin bases.. also picked up a neat cyclop sculpt from maxmini.eu

My Armies

As of now, I officially have 4 armies, which are:

  1. Tomb Kings
  2. Ogre Kingdoms
  3. Lizardmen
  4. Vampire Counts
I got enough figures for probably a 2500 pt games for my TK & OK army.  I just need about a week of painting time and i will finally be able to "finish" my tomb king army.  OK will need lots of work.

Lizard men and Vampire Counts are pretty new to me...

First Post on my blog

Hello beautiful world... Decided to start a blog to document my hobby - Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

This was a hobby I started out back in my university days in 2002...Started up with a Tomb Kings army... of all things.  Painted some of the units up... played 2 games... had a minor victory against a DE army but got trashed badly by a WOC player and stopped ever since..

Of course, at that time i didn't understand the power imbalance between a WOC & TK army and just got disheartened and stopped playing.  Then in September 2010... I opened my bag of minis.. and started to assemble up that last box of skeleton horsemen which was collecting dust for 8 years...After that, there is no more turning back.

I am now actively back to Warhammer but having to juggle my hobby and part-time studies.. it leaves me with less time than I really want with my precious minis... Following posts will give more information on the armies i have.

Stay Tuned!
